I joined The State Journal-Register as a general assignment reporter and was editorial page editor when I left after nearly two decades there. I did just about every kind of reporting and writing while I was there, and I've tried to include a wide variety of samples here. Because I spent a decade on the editorial board writing editorials, most of what's below comes from that period. As it happened, that span was one of the most tumultuous in Illinois state government history, starting with the end of Gov. George Ryan's lone term and ending with the conviction of his successor, Rod Blagojevich, on corruption charges. I will be adding much more to this section of the site shortly. For now, here are a few things to get started with. There's much more on my old site. Click here to see all of the editorials. I also did a lot of feature writing at the SJ-R, and you'll find a sampling of that work here.
